ICT-Hub & Internet For All
Problem: Limited internet access for students and host communities around Sule Lamido University.
Solution: Established an ICT-Hub in FCIT with unrestricted internet access and trained 100 students in digital marketing strategies.
Impact: Changed entrepreneurial mindsets and connected students to digital platforms for business growth.
Smart Green Virtual Clinic & Clinical Data Repository
Problem: Fragmented health data across Nigeria limits clinical research and sustainable healthcare delivery.
Solution: Cloud-based Clinical Data Repository with federated machine learning modules consolidating patient data nationwide.
Impact: Pilot deployment across three health centres in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State.
SLUK Terrestrial Radio Propagation Repository
Problem: No open national repository for 5G and beyond radio science research in West Africa.
Solution: Built www.slurepo.com.ng — the first terrestrial radio propagation repository of its kind in West Africa.
Impact: Supports 5G research modelling rain and specific attenuation for FR1 and FR2 bands.
Automated Fish Pond Monitoring System
Problem: Fish farming efficiency depends on reliable monitoring of water quality and power supply.
Solution: Sensor network (temperature, pH, turbidity, water level) with Arduino microcontrollers, Firebase, and Android app.
Impact: Demonstrated workable IoT prototype for fisheries aquaculture in Nigeria.
AI-Enabled Translator for Nigerian Languages
Problem: Language barriers limit digital inclusion across Nigeria's major languages.
Solution: Developing AI-enabled translation for major Nigerian languages.
Impact: Advancing indigenous language technology and digital accessibility.

Looking ahead
A landmark year — and a platform for the future
2023 was a defining year for FCIT — from full NUC accreditation and postgraduate programme approval to ten new laboratories, ₦300M+ in infrastructure grants, and a research portfolio exceeding ₦75 million. The faculty published 22 high-impact outputs, trained 100 students in digital entrepreneurship, and launched West Africa's first open radio science repository.
Building on this momentum, FCIT aims to commence programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Telecoms, and Informatics & Data Science by 2028 — continuing our mission to produce ethical, industry-ready computing professionals for Nigeria's digital economy.
