Vision
Where we are headed
To create a sustainable, productive, and profitable agricultural sector by integrating economic principles with modern, accessible and inclusive extension services.
Economics of production and markets, rural development, and extension that connects research to farming communities across Jigawa State.
Our story
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension was established in October 2022 as one of the four founding academic departments of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management. It was created to train professionals who can analyse agricultural markets, guide farm-level decision making, and deliver extension services that connect university research with rural communities across Jigawa State and northern Nigeria.
The department believes sustainable agricultural development requires both rigorous economic analysis and accessible extension outreach. Its teaching integrates production economics, rural sociology, and farmer-facing communication so graduates can strengthen food security, rural livelihoods, and evidence-based policy.
