Vision
Where we are headed
To be a centre of excellence in dryland livestock production, pasture ecology, and sustainable animal husbandry for northern Nigeria.
Livestock production systems suited to dryland environments, pasture ecology, and animal husbandry for food security.
Our story
The Department of Animal Science was established in October 2022 alongside the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management. From its inception, the department has focused on livestock production systems adapted to the dryland and semi-arid ecology of northern Nigeria, with growing enrolment across all undergraduate levels.
The department follows the NUC CCMAS curriculum, combining classroom instruction with practical training in animal nutrition, breeding, physiology, and pasture management. Students are prepared to address food security through sustainable livestock production in dryland environments.
Vision
To be a centre of excellence in dryland livestock production, pasture ecology, and sustainable animal husbandry for northern Nigeria.
Mission
To deliver quality education and research in animal science, preparing graduates who can advance food security through livestock production, product processing, and climate-resilient animal systems.
